Every year Chopard produces luxury watches from the series L.U.C XP Esprit de Fleurier Peony, inspired by the beauty of the peony. In the new model of the series, presented as part of the jewelry and watch salon Baselworld 2019, was used a combination of craft techniques: engraving, gold, pearlescent decoupage and decalcomania. A separate method, the fleurisanne engraving, is used to decorate the 35-mm caliber L.U.C 96.23-L, which ensures the operation of this majestic wristwatch.
A favorite flower of Chopard Co-President Caroline Scheufele, peony, is also highly regarded in China. For the first time in connection with the celestial peonies mentioned in the IX century. Sung by artists and poets, peony was considered the king of flowers, a symbol of wealth and honor and was associated with the Emperor.
The Chopard manufacture celebrates the unsurpassed beauty of peony year after year, using a variety of craft techniques owned by the brand’s masters. As a result, the watch world receives women’s luxury watches from the L.U.C XP collection with a 35-mm case. Especially in this model, a mini garden of eight peonies blooms on the purple background of the dial. The color palette of the miniature is as diverse as the shades of the peony. Pink, from the palest to the most saturated, is adjacent here with purple, and all this contrasts with the delicate green foliage. To give the picture a visual depth, Chopard masters did not darken the flowers but emphasized the beauty of the flower with the handmade application of white mother-of-pearl. The final touch in the composition – a butterfly produced from the 18-karat rose gold.
If the back of this beautiful wristwatch faces you, you can observe the luxurious finish of the caliber L.U.C 96.23-L with hand-made engraving executed in the fleurisanne technique. In the creative arsenal of Chopard, the fleurisanne engraving appeared thanks to Karl-Friedrich Scheufele. In 1870, he saw the carriage timepiece decorated in this technique and decided to revive it in his luxury watches. Fortunately, the company had a woman engraver, who volunteered to learn the fleurisanne technique independently and brilliantly coped with the task.
First, she sketched a picture directly on the surface of the bridges, then outlined the contours with an engraving cutter. Then she removed all the excess metal in such a way that the pattern with peonies became like a sculptural bas-relief. The petals of the flowers look so delicate that they seem ready to tremble at the slightest breeze. Careless beauty of the flowers complement the delicate leaves. The polishing fixed with rhodium coating enhances the visual contrast with the rest of the mechanism. This impeccable model, available exclusively in the Chopard boutiques, is released in a limited edition of 8 pieces.
