High-end watches from Audemars Piguet and Piaget have distinctive appearance quite familiar to enthusiastic timepiece admirers. However, in the fall of 2019, both brands presented exclusive timekeeping devices with a slightly changed design.
Audemars Piguet Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique
In 2019, Audemars Piguet offered the female part of its audience a very spectacular novelty. Namely, two new models in rose and white gold cases. We are talking about high-end watches from the Millenary collection, which, contrary to the established concept of the product line (a timepiece with a shifted dial and a partially open mechanism), turned into an elegant timekeeping device with a quite traditional “whole” dial, recreating the appearance of the so-called “philosophical” wristwatches.

The thing is, after the invention of the minute hand, connoisseurs began to call all watches with one (hour) hand “philosophical” ones. Despite the fact that one-hand timekeeping devices are the legacy of the middle ages, such extravagant models still appear occasionally today, mostly from grants of the Swiss watch Olympus. Thus, in 1982, amid the quartz crisis, Audemars Piguet released its first high-end watch with manual winding, which was called Philosophique.
In two Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique models, hand only goes in an elliptical path, repeating the shape of the case (39.5 x 35,4 x 10.9 mm). The Italian designer Carolina Bucci shared the original idea of a one-hand dial plate being complemented with fine Florentine finish with Audemars Piguet masters back in 2016. The cases shining in the light as if covered with a frosty pattern. Such an effect is achieved by processing the metal with a special tool with a diamond tip, which creates micro-protrusions on the treated surface. They catch the light, creating characteristic reflections. Florentine finish serves as a sumptuous frame of the mother-of-pearl dial, on which an unusual cellular embossing was manually executed.

The patented caliber 3140, equipped with automatic winding and a 50-hour power reserve, provides a steady movement. If you turn the caseback of this splendid timekeeping device to yourself, you will notice that the rotor is decorated with original inserts that match the color of the dial and leather strap. The estimated cost of this delicate model is $29,500.

This opulent timepiece is filled with femininity, sensuality, and fantasy. Made of rose gold, its 34-mm case is framed by a rotating rose gold bezel richly encrusted with glittering diamonds. A blue sapphire stands out in a chain of shining gemstones. Slightly smaller sapphires adorn the dial, serving as hour markers. The alligator strap supports the mesmerizing with its depth blue color, which gives a powerful visual contrast with the light background of the dial.
This astonishing Piaget model for female connoisseurs runs on a quartz mechanism that supports the display of hours and minutes.
Certainly, both Piaget and Audemars Piguet have a realm of fabulous timekeeping devices to offer. Visit our collection of used high-end watches at reasonable prices to see it for yourself!
