On November 27, Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong will host the last autumn session of the auction house Phillips, entirely dedicated to the horology art. Before the start of the auction, more than 250 proposed lots can be seen in Taipei (17-18th of November) and Hong Kong (22-26th of November). We offer you to get acquainted with the four luxury watches that promise to become favorites of the Hong Kong session.
Richard Mille RM 52-01 Tourbillon Nano Ceramic Skull
Released in 2013, this bold timepiece became the second in the popular Richard Mille series with skulls images placed on the dials. The wristwatch line is limited to only 6 copies. The case of this luxury watch (50 x 42 millimeters) is constructed out of titanium, rose gold and ceramics. The design holds a fascinating solution – the upper and lower jaw of the skull hold the carriage of the tourbillon.
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Paul Newman Ref. 6241 (“John Player Special” model)
This fashionable model of Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Paul Newman was produced from 1966 to 1969 and is considered an extremely rare time device. The uniqueness of this luxury watch announced for auction emphasizes the fact that only 300 copies of the model were released in the case of 18-karat yellow gold. This timepiece was born in 1968. The title “John Player Special” refers to the company-manufacturer of cigarettes “John Player & Sons”, which in the early 1970s sponsored the racing team Lotus Formula One.
Ulysse Nardin Genghis Khan Ref. 786-81
Relatively new model is this minute repeater with tourbillon released by Ulysse Nardin earlier this year. This luxury watch is the 10th in a series limited to 30 copies. The uniqueness of this alluring time device is that Genghis Khan is the first model in which Ulysse Nardin used a combination of a tourbillon and a minute repeater with a Westminster Carillon, to the sounds of which the jacquemarts move rhythmically on the dial. A minute repeater in this model is equipped with four gongs, each of which has its own sound (Mi-Do-Re-Sol). The case with a diameter of 42 millimeters is manufactured of rose gold, while the dial with jackemarts is made of onyx.
Patek Philippe Ref. 5004A-001
The reference model 5004 was produced from 1994 to 2009, but despite the long production period, it is considered a rare luxury watch. The explanation for this fact is simple: due to the high level of complexity (the wristwatch mechanism supports the functions of the perpetual calendar, split chronograph, lunar phase indicator, as well as 24-hour pointer and year index), only 12 copies were produced per year. By the end of the production cycle, Patek Philippe had introduced a limited edition in steel cases, which included 50 copies. This exact timepiece was released around 2013.
