Founded in 1894 by Emile Descombes and Ulisse Georges Perret, the Le Locle-based watchmaker is one of the leading names that define the Swiss culture and heritage of watchmaking dominance and excellence. After its launching, the company needed a few years to rise to a new platform of significance. Following the death of one of its founders, Emile Descombes, in 1897, Perret assumed the entire management role, and soon teamed up with Louis Edouard Berthoud, a watchmaker who specialized in pocket watch production. Following the success of their collaboration, the pair produced their first 30-minute counter chronograph in 1898. After 36 years, they moved the head offices of the company to Geneva and later renamed the firm Universal Geneve Company. In 1941, they launched the world’s slimmest quartz caliber. After some 80 years following the launch of the first Universal Geneve Cabriolet watches assembled with rotating cases, the Swiss watch manufacturer launched the renewed Universal Geneve Microtor Cabriolet at Baselworld Watches Exhibition 2008. The novel nature of this reinvented Universal Geneve watches helped to solidify its status in the watch industry.
